V7 The Killing Fields

Directed by Roland Joffé and starring real-life survivor Dr. Haing S. Ngor, the 1984 film ” The Killing Fields ” exposed global audiences to the brutal reality of the Cambodian genocide through the true story of journalists Sydney Schanberg and Dith Pran. Released that same year by Virgin Records, Mike Oldfield’s landmark soundtrack LP utilized groundbreaking Fairlight CMI synthesizers alongside full orchestration to translate the psychological trauma of ” Year Zero ” into an avant-garde soundscape. Together, this cinematic milestone and its vinyl counterpart endure as seminal artifacts, cementing the tragedy of 1970s Cambodia into international historic memory.
