Issued on March 4th, 1958, this commemorative stamp series honours His Majesty King Ang Duong ( r. 1848 – 1860 ), a foundational ruler revered for restoring Cambodian statehood, culture, and economy amid intense regional pressure. Progenitor of both the House of Norodom and House of Sisowath, King Ang Duong introduced Cambodia’s first machine-made coinage and initiated strategic diplomatic outreach to France, laying the groundwork for the 1863 protectorate that ultimately preserved the kingdom’s territorial integrity and distinct national identity.
