Issued during Cambodia’s transition from French rule to full independence, this inaugural postage series charts the nation’s emerging sovereignty under King Norodom Sihanouk.
The 1951 – 1952 pre-independence set ( 17 stamps ) features foundational Khmer motifs, including Apsara dancers, the Royal Enthronement Hall, and early portraits of revered King Sihanouk. Following full independence in 1953, the 1954 release ( 20 stamps ) celebrates national pride, depicting Phnom Daun Penh, the Angkor Thom Eastern Gate, the Royal Coat of Arms, and the method of mail transports.
