S17 1964 Birds of Cambodia

Issued on May 2nd, 1964, the ” Birds of Cambodia ” series marks the nation’s first philatelic release dedicated to native avi-fauna. Depicting the Oriental Magpie Robin, Blue-eared Kingfisher, and Gray Heron, this landmark set celebrated the Kingdom of Cambodia’s rich biodiversity across the vital floodplains of the Mekong and Tonle Sap. As Cambodia’s inaugural ornithological issue, it expanded national philately into natural history, transforming everyday postage into a visual pledge to safeguard the country’s natural heritage during the Sangkum era.
