An exceptionally rare 12-inch LP featuring 14 tracks, ” Music from Kampuchea ” stands as a haunting auditory artifact of the Democratic Kampuchea regime. Recorded in Phnom Penh in August 1978 and pressed in Sweden in 1980, the album juxtaposes traditional folk melodies with rigid revolutionary propaganda, projecting a carefully manufactured illusion of agrarian success just months before the regime’s collapse in January 1979. The master tapes were brought to Europe by a delegation from the Sweden–Kampuchea Friendship Association ( SKFA ) following a heavily sanitized state tour. The last track was of the culminating in a full vocal and instrumental performance of the regime’s national anthem, this record endures as a chilling historical testament to the acoustic propaganda machinery used to mask a genocidal tragedy.
