He is considered to be the founder of the French school of geography and also the founder of the French School of Geopolitics.His most influential works included an elementary textbook Collection de Cartes Murales Accompagnées de Notices along with the Annals of Geography in 1894, a quasi-official journal for geographers, which gave him an undeniable authority over geography teachers, and became the reference publication for young academics and researchers.
